Call for Papers, Posters, Panels, and Workshops

Submission deadline for papers & panel proposals: September 14, 2020
Submission deadline for posters & workshop proposals: October 19, 2020

The sudden emergence of COVID-19 instantly changed the landscape of business (and conferences) around the world. Some of the features that characterize the business environment in the pandemic era include increasing uncertainty and complexity, the increasing importance of digital connectivity, changes in the international labor markets, and emerging geopolitical tensions. We already see first consequences on the firm-level, such as the resilience of GVCs becoming a leitmotif of international configuration and reconfiguration of MNEs' activities, political discussions about regionalization and de-globalization, reshoring, and back-shoring strategies, to name just a few. With travelling often impossible and almost always limited, urgent calls for citizens to return to their home-countries, expatriates and management-teams of MNEs also had to adjust their way of doing business and living. In addition, the current situation has substantial impact on how we work and live as academics. The EIBA online conference 2020 is dedicated to discussing the trends, the challenges, and the new normal in the international economic, technological, and social environments, as well as implications for MNEs and MNE employees.

To respond to the new situation, the EIBA 2020 Conference will change, too. First, we will run the conference fully online. Second, and partially in response to the shift to online, we will adjust the structure of the conference as follows. The new structure, on the one hand, maintains most elements of a 'normal' EIBA conference, such as paper presentations, PDWs, or social interactions. On the other hand, the new digital conference environment creates new value for participants.

    Day 1 – December 10th:
PDWs, doctoral workshops, and one opening plenary panel.

    Day 2 – December 11th:
Paper presentations (competitive, interactive, poster) and panel sessions.

Note that the virtual format of the EIBA 2020 Online sessions will differ from the traditional one to assure a high-quality standard and a clear value-added for presenters and session guests (e.g., shorter presentations, session recordings, organized feedback...).

    Day 3 – December 12th:
Special workshops on recent topics in IB teaching and research as well as academia in general by experts in the field. Workshops are free to all registered participants and will be recorded, so all EIBA 2020 Online registered participants can stream the sessions also at a later point in time.

Call for Competitive and Interactive Papers as well as Posters

All papers and posters will be evaluated in a double-blind review process. Copies of abstracts of accepted papers will be published in the EIBA 2020 Online proceedings. Detailed guidelines for the submission of conference papers are available on the conference website: www.eiba.online.

Competitive (max. 10,000 words) and interactive (max. 6,000 words) papers and posters (extended abstract, max. 1,500 words) must be submitted via the EIBA 2020 Online conference website to one of the specified conference tracks.

Submission deadline for papers (competitive/interactive): Monday, September 14, 2020.

Submission deadline for posters: Monday, October 19, 2020.

    Call for Panel Proposals

We also specifically welcome panel proposals on contemporary issues belonging to every area of interest to IB scholars. You may submit a panel proposal of max. 1,000 words using the EIBA 2020 Online submission system.

Submission deadline for panel proposals: Monday, September 14, 2020.

    Call for Workshop Sessions

As a special feature this year, we invite proposals for workshops to be conducted on Day 3 of the EIBA 2020 Online Conference. Workshops focus on a specific field or topic associated with IB research, teaching, or administration, and should help participants to develop in the respective field. Examples could be "Teaching Online", "State of the Art in Research Area XY", research methods workshops, workshops focusing on media management, or any other topic of interest to a relevant segment of the EIBA audience. The specific set-up (i.e., time, length, session structure, degree of audience involvement, number of active participants, need for pre-registration, etc.) depends on the specific focus of the workshop and organizer preferences. Not all parts of a workshop have to be recorded, but we encourage recording at least part of the workshop to make it accessible to a wider audience.

The workshop proposal should include a brief motivation for the workshop, an intended outline (including format, length, etc.) of the workshop, and a list of organizers and faculty members facilitating the event. Maximum length of the proposal is 1,000 words. Please submit your workshop proposal via e-mail to eiba@wu.ac.at (and not via the online submission system).

Submission deadline for workshop proposals: Monday, October 19, 2020.

    Call for Reviewers

We invite volunteers to register as reviewers for the EIBA 2020 Online Conference. Reviewers can expect to be sent a maximum of three manuscripts to review soon after the submission deadline for papers; all reviews should be completed by Monday, October 12th. The quality of academic meetings depends critically on the invaluable input and presence of the reviewers of the papers – so we fully realize how dependent we are on our able volunteers in this regard. You will be able to register as a reviewer for EIBA 2020 Online on the conference website at www.eiba.online.
