Do stock markets timely reflect real options that firms use to grow? This presentation uses the introduction of iPhone by Apple Inc. to illustrate that the option to redeploy a firm's resources to a new product market may be underappreciated by investors for a long time. This raises the redeployability paradox: redeployability of a firm's resources to new markets may make that firm simultaneously more valuable intrinsically and more undervalued in the stock market.
