Strategic Management Review (SMR) is pleased to announce that Tammy Madsen (Santa Clara University) and Joseph Mahoney (University of Illinois) are joining the journal as Associate Editors. Tammy L. Madsen (PhD, UCLA) is the Keck Foundation Professor of Strategic Management and a former Associate Dean of the Leavey School of Business. She teaches in the areas of strategy, digital transformation and innovation in the MBA, Executive MBA, and Executive Development programs at SCU where she has received Extraordinary Faculty Awards for her teaching, research, and service contributions as well as the University President's Special Recognition Award. Her current research examines topics such as competitive heterogeneity and temporary advantage, industry dynamics following a shock, and co-innovation in platform-based ecosystems. Her research has received various awards from the Strategic Management Division, Academy of Management (AOM), including the Glueck Best Paper Award, and appears in outlets such as: Strategic Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management Studies, Industrial and Corporate Change, and Journal of Knowledge Management. She also co-authored the fourth edition of Modern Competitive Strategy (2016, McGraw-Hill Press) with Gordon Walker. Tammy serves on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Management and has previously served in a five-year leadership role for the AOM's Strategic Management Division. She is the Director of the Strategy Research Foundation's Dissertation Grant Program, Strategic Management Society, and serves on the Board of Advisors, Global Innovation Institute. Tammy also holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (UC Santa Barbara) and a M.S. in Systems Management (USC). She began her professional career as a test and evaluation engineer for the weapon control systems on the F14 aircraft and subsequently worked as a design engineer and program manager at Delco Electronics, General Motors.
Joseph T. Mahoney (PhD, Wharton, University of Pennsylvania) is Caterpillar Chair of Business in the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He teaches in the areas of strategic management and organizational economics in the undergraduate, MBA, Executive MBA, and doctoral programs where he has received the outstanding teaching award several times in the Executive MBA program, and in 2017 received the campus award for excellence in graduate/doctoral student mentoring. His current research examines corporate governance, organizational economics, and stakeholder management. His research has been published in the Academy of Management Review, Industrial and Corporate Change, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Science, Research Policy, Production and Operations Management, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Strategic Management Review, and Strategic Organization. Editor at the Academy of Management Review, which concluded in 2020. In 2011, he received the Irwin Outstanding Educator Award from the BPS (now STR) Division of the Academy of Management. In 2012, he was elected as a member of the Academy of Management (AOM) Fellows, and in 2013 he was elected as Fellow of the Strategic Management Society. Joe also holds a B.A. in Economics and an M.S. in Business Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He has taught in Executive training sessions to senior managers at ADM and State Farm.
