Dear STR Members,

As you prepare for the virtual AOM conference, the STR officers want to draw your attention to several sessions that should be of particular interest:

• Session 487 assembles four past STR Outstanding Educator Award Winners (Jan Rivkin, Anita McGahan, Gautam Ahuja, and Myles Shaver) who will reflect on how COVID affects what we should teach in strategy courses and how we teach it. We will also honor Jan for his award.
  • When: Sunday, August 1 from 8:00 - 9:15 am ET  
  • 2020 STR Irwin Outstanding Educator Award and Reflections on What COVID has Taught Us About Being Strategic Management Educators

• Session 550 will be a must for anyone interested in the resource-based view. We will honor the seminal winners of the STR Distinguished Scholarship Award, Margaret Peteraf and Jay Barney, for their contributions to our understanding of how resources lead to competitive advantage. Margie will reflect on the evolution of resource-based theory, while Jay will discuss the theory's future. Marvin Lieberman, Connie Helfat, and Joe Porac will remark on their contribution.
  • When: Sunday, August 1 from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm ET  
  • 2020 STR Distinguished Scholarship Award in Honor of Jay Barney and Margaret Peteraf

• Session 795 is the STR Plenary, the main feature of the STR Program. The panel will discuss how organizational leaders (should) manage the tension between stakeholder and shareholder objectives. The panel includes Jim Snabe (Chairman of Siemens and Maersk), Davis Smith (Founder and CEO of Cotopaxi), Jay Barney (Professor, University of Utah), and Subi Rangan (Professor, INSEAD).

  • STR Plenary - Managing Tensions between Stakeholder and Shareholder Objectives
