#STRongerTogether: pre-AOM “How to” session

When:  Jul 26, 2021 from 11:00 to 13:00 (ET)
Associated with  Strategic Management (STR)

Following two successful inaugural events during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May, the Asian Americans in Business Academia (AABA) Initiative will be hosting a pre-AOM “How to” session geared toward junior doctoral students. Given the unique challenges Asian Americans continue to confront generally and in academia specifically, our goal is to create a community within the field of Management to foster deeper discussions and honest engagement surrounding issues affecting Asian Americans and Asians in America in business academia.

In response to feedback from our AABA membership, we are offering a pre-AOM “How to” session that will cover topics we hope will be helpful to junior doctoral students (and their advisors) such as:

(a) Making the most of your conference experience
(b) Tips for reading and writing academic articles (with particular strategies for non-native English speakers)
(c) Strategies for managing stereotypes and biases when presenting/teaching

We are delighted to have a panel of four esteemed Asian and Asian American scholars who will be sharing their knowledge from their own experiences:

1) Zhenyu Liao (Assistant Professor, Northeastern University)

2) Shimul Melwani (Associate Professor, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill)

3) Haram Seo (Assistant Professor, Texas A&M University)

4) Zhenyu Yuan (Assistant Professor, University of Illinois at Chicago)

This session will take place on July 26 (Monday) at 11:00 am-1:00 pm ET. Please register for the event HERE by July 25. The first hour will include the panel, and the second hour will be for Q&A and breakouts for smaller group discussions. We highly encourage you to forward this event to your friends and colleagues.

Our goal is to equip participants with a set of actionable strategies to combat various challenges that they may encounter. While this session is geared toward doctoral students, we welcome all who are mentoring and advising doctoral students of Asian descent, and anyone who is interested in AABA.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Look forward to seeing you there!
