    STR MANAGING YOUR DISSERTATION WORKSHOP

The STR Managing Your Dissertation Workshop offers doctoral students concrete advice on how to manage the dissertation process, the job market, and their upcoming transition to becoming faculty. Traditionally, the finalists of the STR Best Dissertation Award from the previous year run the workshop. During the workshop, senior faculty members and the Award finalists share their complementary perspectives on topics that include: selecting a dissertation topic; forming and managing a committee; research design, methods and data; seeking a job and preparing a job talk; defending the dissertation; publishing the dissertation research; and leveraging the dissertation into a stream of work. The junior and senior faculty members also take part in breakout sessions to further examine topics of interest to the participants and give more targeted advice. Unfortunately, the 2020 edition, organized by Julien Clement, was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The 2021 STR Managing Your Dissertation Workshop will take place during the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Philadelphia. At this point, it remains unclear whether the workshop will be face-to-face or virtual, which of course depends on the overall format of the conference. Further details will be included in the Spring STR Newsletter. If you have questions, feel free to contact Marco Testoni (m.testoni@tilburguniversity.edu).
