    #STRongerTogether: Alternative Career Paths – Post-Docs

When:  Wednesday, Feb 23, 2022 from 9:30 to 11:00 (ET)

    Where: Virtual event on Zoom

    Associated with Strategic Management (STR)

Please join us at the upcoming #STRongerTogether Virtual Symposium of the Strategic Management (STR) Division titled "Alternative Career Paths – Post-Docs".

    Overview:

The dominant career path followed by STR members is one at an academic institution, typically starting at a tenure-track assistant professor position right after the Ph.D. A growing number of strategy scholars, however, are starting to see value and consider alternative career paths, including a transitional period between doctoral studies and a tenure track position. Post-docs may serve several purposes: provide researchers with more time to improve their pipeline of projects, help scholars transition from different disciplines or academic traditions, help students improve their networks, among others. This virtual symposium aims at discussing the pros and cons that potential applicants should take into account when considering applying and pursuing a post-doc. All four panelists included in the symposium started their careers with post-docs, which they each decided to pursue for different reasons. The symposium will first let panelists share with the audience their own experiences. Then, the session will be open for Q&A.

    Panelists:

Leandro Nardi: current Post-doc at HEC Paris

Panikos Georgallis (U of Amsterdam): Post-doc Michigan Ross
