May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. In recognition of the contributions and influence of Asian Americans scholars both past and present, we invite you to join us for our First Annual Asian Americans in Business Academia Initiative. Given the unique challenges Asian Americans continue to confront during the pandemic, our goal is to create a community within the fields of strategy and management to foster deeper discussions and honest engagement surrounding issues affecting Asian Americans in business academia. As the first of a two-part series, we are delighted to have a distinguished panel of six Asian American scholars who each bring a unique perspective to the topic:
1) Yurianna Kimmons (Assistant Professor - Oklahoma State University)
2) Yuri Mishina (Associate Professor – Imperial College Business School)
3) Hatim Rahman (Assistant Professor – Northwestern University)
4) Varkey (Anand) Titus (Associate Professor – University of Nebraska)
5) Elaine Wong (Associate Professor – UC Riverside)
6) Dennis Yao (Lawrence E. Fouraker Professor of Business Administration – Harvard Business School).
Moderated by: Shelby Gai (Assistant Professor – Michigan State University)
Our goal is to facilitate an open conversation about being an Asian American in business academia and how that impacts multiple dimensions of our profession such as research, teaching, job opportunities, and networking. We will follow our 45 min panel discussion with a 15 min networking session so that participants have an opportunity to get to know others in the Asian American community.
Our inaugural session is scheduled to take place on May 12 (Wednesday) at 3:30 PM ET. Please register for the event HERE by May 11 (Tuesday). Asian American is a broad tent category, and we encourage all who are interested—including those who do not identify as Asian American—to attend.
Please let us know if you have any questions. Look forward to seeing you there!
