    Dear colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to a PDW we are organizing in Chicago on the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to support qualitative research!

Qualitative Research with ChatGPT and Other Large Language Models (Session 782)

    Sunday 12.00 – 15.00 at Swissotel, room Vevey 2

While scholars have long used computational tools to quantify and categorize textual data, the next generation of artificial intelligence tools holds a promise to facilitating new and innovative forms of interpretive qualitative analyses. The session covers both the potential of these tools to support research and the various perils they pose for both research ethics and practice.

We propose that rather than outsourcing analytical steps to ChatGPT and its ilk, qualitative researchers may benefit the most from computational tools by approaching them as partners in abductive scientific exploration. The purpose of this PDW is to share emerging insights on the new research approaches and to form a community of qualitative scholars interested in developing new research methods around artificial intelligence to augment qualitative analysis.

The session is organized by Stine Grodal and Henri Schildt, and it includes presentations by Tim Hannigan, Dev Jennings, Yusaku Takeda, and Nataliya Wright.

We hope to see you on Sunday-no specific registration is required for this session.

    Best regards,
    Henri
