The Northeastern Advantage
Northeastern University has experienced an impressive transformation in the last two decades, becoming one of the fastest-rising research institutions in the U.S. This has been achieved through a unique entrepreneurial educational model that integrates world-class scholarly research with authentic experiential learning opportunities. Accordingly, the D'Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University has hired more than 50 scholars over the last few years; while at the same time deepened its relationship with the business world. We pride ourselves on conducting research and outreach activities that are both rigorous, novel, and address the world's most pressing issues. We are a highly collaborative and inclusive intellectual community. The new Post-Doc program is expected to be an integral and fully integrated component of our scholarly community.
The Boston Experience
Northeastern University's campus is situated on Huntington Avenue (Avenue of the Arts) at a short walk from some of the most attractive areas of Boston, and neighbor to many other major educational institutions in the city. Greater Boston is home to more than 65 universities and colleges-some of them with strong research capabilities. Northeastern faculty maintain active research collaborations with colleagues in other area schools. Greater Boston arguably boasts the largest concentration of scholars in management today.
The Post-Doc Candidate
Our Post-Doc cohort will include high-potential, recent PhD graduates from research-active schools who are conducting investigations that are both rigorous and relevant, particularly in one of these three broad research areas: entrepreneurship & innovation; corporate governance & leadership; and comparative finance. We expect Post-Docs to work closely with one or more of our school's faculty, either on new research projects or in projects derived from the candidate's thesis work. We will also look for those candidates with research programs that have the highest potential to result in top-tier journal publications and/or major research grants.
Post-Doc Conditions and Duration
We expect Post-Doc appointments to last for two academic years, but renewal for a second year will be contingent on an annual evaluation. The FAS Center for Global Business has ensured financial support up to $60,000 per year for each Post-Doc. The starting date could be either in Fall 2016 or Spring 2017, to be determined directly by the candidate and the sponsoring faculty.
How To Apply
The strongest candidates will be those whose research interests align closely with our faculty, and whose proposals are strongest in theory, methods, and potential for future publications. We encourage applicants to look in detail at the school's faculty and research, in order to identify faculty with similar interests and ongoing research activity who may be willing to sponsor and support the applicant's proposal.
Interested applicants should send a proposal that includes:
· Cover letter
· A summary description (4 pages) of their planned research program while at D'Amore-McKim School of Business.
o Importance and theoretical contribution of the topic to be investigated
o Level of progress, from new project to be undertaken to derived project from Ph.D. thesis work
o Expected output and milestones to be achieved, including publication strategy
o Identification of two Greater Boston based faculty most relevant for proposed topic, one of which at least should be from the D'Amore-McKim School of Business.
