The Doctoral School of Social Sciences and Business at Roskilde University, Denmark, is accepting applications for its annual research scholarship.
The 2017 scholarship prioritizes proposals linked to research themes covered by the Management and Organization research group: http://forskning.ruc.dk/site/en/organisations/ledelse-og-organisation(bcc13645-d086-4771-a7b1-97d54dbf91fe).html
The application must include the following documents in a single PDF file. Kindly note the page limits for the proposal and do not exceed it. Any additional documents that are not listed under the following four items or pages exceeding the maximum length will not be considered.
1. A Curriculum Vitae (CV) (maximum length 5 pages) that summarizes the applicant's academic experience
2. Documentation of previous education (a Master's degree and grade is essential; the written evaluation of the thesis may be included)
3. A research proposal for the PhD Project (maximum length 5 pages plus reference list)
- The proposal should clearly indicate all of the following:
- field of study
- research problem
- theoretical framework
- review of the relevant literature
- methodological approaches
- analytical framework (general considerations regarding the empirical evidence to be analysed)
- ethical considerations relevant to the project
- time schedule indicating how the applicant plans to complete the research proposed within a three-year period
4. A detailed letter of support from a full-time ISE faculty member (Associate Professor or Professor) who will act as the main supervisor if the project is successful. This letter should identify the strengths of the project, its potential limitations, how these limitations might be overcome, and the fit of the project into the research environment at ISE. There is no minimum or maximum length for this document. Foreign students may send a recommendation letter from their home institution to the ISE-faculty member who will write their support letter for this application.
Due to the anticipated number of applicants, the application guidelines will be strictly enforced. Research Proposals should be single spaced, using Times New Roman size 12 font, 2 cm margins on all sides, numbered pages, and with a header stating the applicant's name.
Candidates who do not follow the guidelines, incomplete, or late applications, will not be considered. In past experience, applications from candidates whose Master's thesis was awarded a grade indicating less than 'an excellent performance' in the Danish system or its international equivalent will be at a considerable disadvantage.
The assessment of the application will be done according to the following primary criteria:
- Does the proposal suggest potential for original research?
- Is the research question clear and precise?
- Does the theoretical and methodological approach appear appropriate?
- Does the research project (including primary data collection and/or field research) appear feasible for a 3 year PhD?
- Does the applicant have sufficient academic qualifications?
- Does the applicant have sufficient language and/or methodological proficiency?
In case ISE must prioritize between competing applications, the following set of secondary criteria may be applied:
- Prior research experience (bearing in mind that the project must not duplicate the applicant's prior research).
- Availability and commitment of appropriate supervisor within the Department.
- Fit of the research topic within the priority research areas in the Department.
