December 2013

Introduction
Strategic management is a prominent component of the management domain, and that emphasis is mirrored in articles published in ORM. For example, Strategic Management Journal is the fifth most commonly cited journal among ORM articles. Additionally, ORM has published two Feature Topics on strategic management: A general strategic management issue in 2008, and an issue on construct measurement in strategic management in 2013.
This virtual feature topic consists of 17 articles devoted to methodological issues linked to the study of Strategic Management that have been previously published in Organizational Research Methods (ORM). It includes both recent and more classic ORM articles on five strategic management topics: design issues, survey data, innovative approaches to data, qualitative approaches, and construct measurement. I would like to thank Sage Publications for making these articles freely available for download over the next 12 weeks. We hope you find the articles in this feature topic helpful as you pursue your research.
Sincerely,
James M. LeBreton, In-coming Editor

Organizational Research Methods
ORM is a multi-disciplinary journal focused on the advancement of research methods and statistics in organizational sciences. We publish both qualitative and quantitative articles on a very wide range of topics. Over the last several years, the scholarly impact of ORM has steadily risen. For example, the ISI Web of Knowledge Journal Citation Reports for 2012 (released in 2013) assigned ORM an overall Impact Factor of 3.93 (4.89 for the 5-year impact factor).
This Impact Factor ranks ORM
- 11th out of 172 journals in the Management category,
- 3rd out of the 72 journals in the Applied Psychology category,
- 6th out of 116 journals in the Business category, and
- 1st out of 14 journals in the Mathematical Psychology category.
This impact factor also puts ORM in the top half of the journals on the Financial Times Top 45.
It is also worth noting the impact trajectory for ORM has been steadily upward, suggesting an increasing reputation among researchers both as a place to publish and as a place to seek out leading edge knowledge on organizational research methods.
As a journal, we pride ourselves on having outstanding scholars serve as part of our editorial review board. Our board consists of Fellows of the Academy of Management, past chairs of the Research Methods Division, and elected officers of many other divisions of the Academy of Management. Editorial teams have also included Distinguished Career Award and Early Career Award Winners, Presidents of SIOP, and members of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Management. These teams have drawn from the expertise of faculty at leading universities around the world.
