    PDW: Natural Experiments in Management Research: A Hands-on Introduction and Paper Development Workshop

     We will be hosting a PDW on "Natural Experiments in Management Research: A Hands-on Introduction and Paper Development Workshop" at the AOM in Boston.

     Goals of the PDW

    1. We provide participants basic knowledge about natural experiments. For this reason, we will introduce the most common designs (i.e., the difference-in-difference, regression discontinuity, and instrumental variable design) and explain how participants can apply them.
    2. We aim to support participants who are using natural experiments in their research by providing feedback to their projects to help them to further improve their use of natural experiments.

     Format of the PDW

    Part 1: Natural experiments in management and organization studies (60 minutes)

    Participants will learn about the most common designs of natural experiments (i.e., regression discontinuity design, difference-in-difference design, and instrumental variable design). This part is open without registration.

    Part 2: Paper development session (60 minutes)

    Registered participants will receive feedback on the natural experiment they use in their research. Participants can register for the paper development workshop by sending a summary paper to Jost Sieweke (j.sieweke@vu.nl) by July 15, 2019. Please ensure that your paper follows this guideline:

    • max 4 pages all inclusive, double spaced;
    • word file or PDF;
    • title page (not included in the 4 page maximum) with author(s), affiliations, contact details, and natural experimental design (i.e., regression discontinuity design, difference-in-difference design, or instrumental variable design)
    • Please use this email subject heading "PDW Submission Natural Experiments"
