FOUNDING DEAN
Karachi School for Business and Leadership,
In Collaboration with Judge Business School
OVERVIEW The Board of Directors of the Karachi Education Initiative is
conducting an international search for an entrepreneurial leader to serve
as the founding dean of the new Karachi School for Business and Leadership
(KSBL) in Karachi, Pakistan. KSBL is currently in development with the
intention of beginning executive education programs in 2010 and admission
of the first class of MBA students in 2012. Located in the largest city in
Pakistan and the commercial, trade and banking capital of the country, KSBL
intends to become the premier business school in the Karachi market and one
of the top two business schools in Pakistan within a short period.
Compelled by the needs in the Karachi market, the Karachi Education
Initiative is prepared to invest the resources required to attract highly
motivated and exceptionally well-qualified faculty, staff and students to
its programs. The founding dean will serve as the chief administrative and
academic officer of KSBL and is expected to assume the office no later than
June 2010.
ROLE & DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
The primary function of the dean is to lead the faculty and staff in its
full range of activities including teaching, research and professional
practice, in accordance with the strategic plan of the Karachi School for
Business and Leadership. The dean shall act as the academic leader and
chief executive of an entrepreneurial business venture focused on
managerial and graduate business education.
The successful applicant will have strong academic credentials, including
an earned doctorate in economics, management or a business discipline. In
addition, the dean must be a person who meets the following standards:
A strategic leader able to oversee and manage the establishment of a new
premier business school, including recruitment of outstanding and diverse
faculty, staff and students
An effective spokesperson with compelling communication skills–a person
able to communicate with multiple constituencies
A team leader able to foster, negotiate and implement partnership and
collaborative relationships with business schools, corporations,
foundations and donor groups to further the aims of KSBL; and establish the
academic, research and placement programs according to best practices in
global business management education
A skilled administrator, planner and problem solver with the ability to
align priorities with budgets and meet both programmatic and financial
goals COLLABORATION WITH CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY’S JUDGE BUSINESS SCHOOL KSBL
has entered into a multiple-year strategic collaboration with Judge
Business School Executive Education at the University of Cambridge,
England–providing the new school with full-scope capacity building services
leading to the establishment of a world-class institution. This includes
support for faculty recruitment and development, curriculum design and
delivery, educational programs and other support services. Cambridge
Executive Education will also be coordinating the search for the founding
dean of the school.
