    Anaheim Convention Center 211B

    Program Session 133

Are you looking for an exciting research context?

Come join us as we illuminate an emergent recent research context for OB researchers: family business. Family business research has appeared in numerous journals, including Academy of Management Review, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Family Business Review (FBR), Journal of Organizational Behavior, Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice (ETP). However, despite the numerous outlets for family business research, scant research has explored organizational behavior concepts and theories within a family business context. The focus of this PDW is to encourage OB researchers to consider using family business as a research context, since family firms have different issues than the traditional firm (Dyer, 2003).

The format of this PDW will include brief presentations by four leading scholars in family business research, including James Vardaman (Mississippi State U.), Laura Marler (Mississippi State U.), Danielle Cooper (U. of North Texas), and Jon Carr (North Carolina State U.). These presentations will cover areas such as the following:

    ·         Relevance of the intersection of OB research in a family business context

    ·         OB topics relevant to family businesses

    ·         Methodological issues to consider when conducting family business research, and

    ·         An editor's perspective on the intersection of OB and family business research.

Participants will have the chance to ask the presenters questions related to conducting and publishing research in OB and family business.

No pre-registration is necessary to attend!!
