Want your students to really learn while you generate a high level academic mainstream publication? Consider encouraging your students to do a crowdfunding project (think Kickstarter, or a crowdfunding campaign aimed at helping a social cause). It has led to a natural experiment that three of us are targeting for a high level journal (e.g., AMJ or JBV), and for an article in practitioner journal (probably aimed at Business Horizons).
Also since crowdfunding requires students cope with tremendous strategic challenges in a compressed time frame, it is a great teaching tool for the students. Three of my students are doing a campaign as an independent study, and for two of my courses it is a source of constant dramatic examples in just about every class session.
