Positions
As part of a continuing growth initiative, the Department of Management of Tilburg University invites applications for two tenure track positions in strategy.
We seek future colleagues whose work fits our orientation towards strategy scholarship from a management perspective. In candidates at the Assistant Professor level, we look for exceptional research potential and strong teaching potential. We welcome applications from experienced assistant professors. One position is at open rank, and we will consider candidates for Associate or Full Professor in case of demonstrated capabilities and fit (see below).
We are open to candidates with interests in various topics and subfields – in particular corporate strategy and governance or entrepreneurship (startups) but also competitive strategy, innovation, international management, etc. We are able to hire applicants to join the Department in any month during 2019. ABD applicants will be expected to earn their Ph.D. prior to taking up employment.
Department and Conditions
The Department of Management is part of the School of Economics and Management (TiSEM) at Tilburg University. As a whole, the department consists of 38 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and 13 lecturers. Within the department, the Strategy and Organization section conducts research in strategy, entrepreneurship, international business, innovation, and organization theory from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives. The current members of the department, including its Strategy and Organization group, are listed at
www.tilburguniversity.edu/mgt. The department also has a high-caliber set of emeritus and affiliated faculty and fellows. The working language of the department and school is English.
This is an opportunity to join a diverse and collegial group of research-oriented colleagues, including a terrific group of junior and recently hired scholars. Among the tenured or tenure-track strategy scholars joining the department since 2017 are Lien Denoo (from Ghent U. via U. of Southern California), Roisin Donnelly (from Bentley U.), Anindya Ghosh (from Wharton via Indian School of Business), Kyeonggook (Francis) Park (from NYU-Stern) and Ningxin (Jennifer) Wang (from Hong Kong U. of Science and Technology), plus Erkko Autio (part-time, also at Imperial College London). In other areas of management, tenure-track colleagues hired in the last two years include Amin Amiri (from U. of British Columbia), Spyros Angelopoulos (from Warwick U. via U. of Lugano/Swiss National Science Foundation), Sangho Chae (from Arizona State U.), Marianna Frangeskou (from U. of Bath) and Eirini Spiliotopoulou (from MIT-Zaragoza via VU Amsterdam). In addition, the Department houses two tracks of TiSEM's Research Master and Ph.D. programs, which prepare researchers for productive academic careers with excellent international placements.
The department has a very strong research orientation with a focus on high-quality publications. We aim to maximize the research time available to research-active faculty, and working conditions are otherwise comparable to major research universities in Europe and North America. The teaching load for pre-tenure faculty is the equivalent of two courses plus guidance of Bachelor and Master's thesis projects, in total per year (40% teaching time). Compensation is competitive with similar schools, and we provide guaranteed travel and starting research budgets. Faculty moving to the Netherlands may be eligible for a large tax abatement for a period of eight years.
