The STR Division Teaching Committee is working on helping faculty members to enhance their effectiveness in teaching strategic management.
As part of that work, we are looking to identify innovative examples of "active learning" where students engage with the material they learn. Active learning includes working with case studies, classroom activities and term projects. It also goes beyond, with blended learning (online learning combined with time in class) and the "flipped classroom" where the instructor takes on facilitator and mentor roles as students apply what they learn.
If you would like to describe how you implement active learning to your courses in strategic management, and to reflect on your experiences in this area, we want to hear from you - wherever you are in the world! You can also nominate a colleague. Please get in touch with us at hener@ilstu.edu and hessa@wlu.edu
For more information about how some faculty members in our field are adopting the active learning approach, please see examples on our Division's website (https://strdiv.org/teaching/all-levels/) as well as on the Carpenter Strategy Toolbox website (https://carpenterstrategytoolbox.com/), which Professor Russ Coff curates, and many of us are grateful for.
Sincerely,
Hakan Ener (Illinois State University) and Drew M. Hess (Washington and Lee University), on behalf of the STR Division Teaching Committee
