Summer School in Computational Organization Science, Fontainebleau, July 2-4, 2018

We are pleased to announce a Summer School in Computational Organization Science at INSEAD Fontainebleau from July 2nd to 4th, 2018. The Summer School welcomes applications from doctoral students and junior researchers.

This workshop focuses on computational modeling and theory development. The workshop involves lectures on a variety of models applied to the study of organizations and has hands-on group assignments.

The workshop will be taught by members of the Theoretical Organizational Models (TOM*) Society, including Jerker Denrell (MIT), Thorbjørn Knudsen (SDU), Daniel Levinthal (Wharton), Chengwei Liu (Warwick), Phanish Puranam (INSEAD) and Hazhir Rahmandad (MIT).

Topics covered: applications of computational modeling for research on strategy and organizations, a brief survey of canonical models (e.g., mutual and coupled learning models; bandit models; NK models; system dynamics models) with hands-on practice sessions; publishing modeling papers in top management journals.

The Summer School will charge a fee of €300 per participant to cover expenses for refreshments, meals and other logistics for the workshop. Scholarships are available to waive this fee for a few participants. Participants will be responsible for covering their own accommodation (highly subsidized and arranged by INSEAD for confirmed participants) and their travel expenses to and from Fontainebleau.

Applications should be submitted by Friday March 2nd via this link:

and include (1) CV; (2) a one-page document describing the applicant's current research activities and how modeling could contribute to his/her research. A separate, (3) brief recommendation letter from a member of applicant's dissertation committee to be sent to Chengwei Liu (Chengwei.Liu@wbs.ac.uk). Admitted candidates will be notified by the end of March.

For any specific inquiry or clarification, please contact Chengwei Liu (Chengwei.Liu@wbs.ac.uk)

    * The TOM society was founded in 2010 to support research and a community of scholars interested in the development of formal and computational models in the organization sciences. The initial conference was held at Oxford and was organized by Jerker Denrell, subsequent conferences have been held at University Pompeu Fabra (Gael Le Mens organizer), NYU (Christina Fang organizer), University of Southern Denmark (Thorbjørn Knudsen and Oliver Baumann organizers), University of Venice (Massimo Warglien organizer), MIT (Hazhir Rahmandad and Chengwei Liu organizers), LUISS (Luigi Marengo organizer) and INSEAD (Phanish Puranam organizer).
