    Hello,

I apologize that BPSnet has not been functioning for the past two weeks due to some circumstances outside of our control. Today I went through the backlog of submitted messages and tried to filter through them as quickly as possible. Recently more than half of the messages submitted to BPSnet are spam so the filtering may not have been perfect.

If you submitted something since September 28th and have not seen it posted yet, please resubmit and I will approve it as soon as possible.

    Call for Participants

Strategic Management Society Houston Conference Competitive Strategy IG

    Junior Faculty Professional Development Workshop

    Saturday, October 28, 2017, 9:00-12:00

Please join us at the SMS Competitive Strategy Junior Faculty Professional Development Workshop during the upcoming SMS Houston conference! The theme for this year's workshop is 'All About Journal Reviews', and will focus on the journal review process from two perspectives – authors' and reviewers'. It will feature discussions on how to manage the R&R process as authors, as well as on how to provide high quality reviews as reviewers. Leading the discussions will be a panel of respected scholars serving as editors at top journals in our field, including Felipe Csaszar, Martin Ganco, Connie Helfat, Will Mitchell, Tomasz Obloj, Francisco Polidoro, and Hart Posen. Each panelist will present for about 10-15 mins, and the rest of the time will be allocated to discussions, Q&A sessions, and a coffee break that allows further interactions. This workshop is meant to be interactive, in a way that we believe is helpful for junior faculty.

Workshop Co-Organizers: PK Toh (University of Texas at Austin) and Elena Vidal (Baruch College, City University New York)

    Hi Scott,

Not sure this reply to David Brock's post got through,  sent a couple weeks ago –  copied it below.

    Hi David,

My MBAs really got a lot out of the following article.

    http://goodbeerhunting.com/blog/2017/5/5/watch-the-hands-not-the-cards-the-magic-of-megabrew

It's free online, everyone can read it, and decidedly MBA-ish. As business articles go, even kind of fascinating. It led to some great in-class discussion. Even the accountants got animated J

It lays out AB-InBev's strategy around one of its most valuable and rare assets (Budweiser) at the core of their competitive advantage, and the actions they are taking to protect that strategic advantage. AB-InBev will use this same thinking all over the world with all of the national brands that they own, because they lean on (essentially) the same strategy with those brands. The article is "real time," and students like the "real world" example of strategy implementation and competitive battling. As of today, BTW the AB brand six pack on the shelf at the market are now priced closer and closer to the craft beer products, an further implementation of their strategy of defending (or trying to anyway) the "premium" category position.

I am looking for one reading (chapter or article) on which to base an MBA class on Strategy Implementation.

Any suggestions? A link and/or PDF would be extra welcome.
