This interactive workshop is designed for doctoral students and junior faculty members who conduct qualitative research in the context of organizational change and consider applying a process perspective to their studies. In the first part of the workshop, two senior scholars will, respectively, share their insights into conducting qualitative process studies. Firstly, Robert Chia will offer his perspective on process studies and the implications for how to do research. Secondly, Benson Honig will take an author's perspective and present his practical experience when publishing a qualitative process paper in a top tier journal. In the second part of the workshop, participants will break into small groups and briefly present the research designs they submitted when they registered for the workshop, receive individual feedback, and discuss their designs with the rest of the group. Each discussion group will be facilitated by an experienced scholar with a track record of published qualitative papers that use a process perspective. The first part of the workshop, i.e. two presentations, will be open to everyone interested in joining the workshop, regardless whether they registered in advance or not. During the second part, i.e. group discussion, only registered participants will join the round-table discussions. Each registered participant will be assigned to read a set of up to five articles before the workshop. This background reading material will include conceptual articles/book chapters on process perspective and exemplary process studies using a qualitative method.

The learning outcomes of this workshop will include greater familiarity with taking a process perspective, better knowledge about how to ensure quality in qualitative studies, and an enhanced ability to reflect on one's own research designs. In addition, participants will have been able to test their initial research designs among a group of peers and experienced researchers, and to build new professional relationships with novice and senior scholars.

The PDW will offer space for 30 participants from any special interest group (SIG), who will be selected based on first come, first served principle. If you would like to participate in both parts of the workshop, please send a short document (up to 3 pages) with the following information: name, university affiliation, your research interests (max. five keywords, e.g.: dynamic capabilities, innovation success, etc.), name of the SIG you belong to, and a short research design for your qualitative study (including your research question, your relevant literature, your method and preliminary results, if applicable). In addition, please submit the questions that you would like to discuss with your facilitator. Please send the applications to the following e-mail address: stanske@europa-uni.de before the application deadline.

The application deadline for the workshop is August 27.

Please note: additional registration is required at https://www.bam.ac.uk/civicrm/event/info?id=3323.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact the workshop co-organizer Sarah Stanske at stanske@europa-uni.de.

We are looking forward to seeing you!
