I am engaged in a project examining ownership patterns of Japanese firms and
need to collect ownership data for these firms. I plan on using the Japan
Company Handbook but have some questions about its use. Upon examination of
Winter Quarter volumes for 2 successive years, I find inconsistencies in
inclusions of firms (i.e., some firms appear in one year's Winter quarter
edition but not the next Winter quarter edition), and also dates from which
the data was extracted (dates of ownership are given in each entry in the
JCH. However, dates can vary by as much as 9 months between firms in the
same JCH edition). Has anyone encountered similar problems, and if so, could
you provide solutions to these problems.
