Call for Participation
FLOSS Research Development Workshop
Academy of Management, Atlanta
August 13, 2006
http://floss2006.info/
We would like to invite you to participate in an Academy of
Management Professional Development Workshop for developing
papers on free, libre and open source software (FLOSS). This
PDW will be held on Sunday 13 August 2006, just before the
Academy of Management Conference in Atlanta, GA, USA. It is
co-sponsored by the Technology & Innovation Management
(TIM), Business Policy and Strategy (BPS) and Organizational
Communication and Information Systems (OCIS) divisions of
the Academy.
This workshop is intended both for new and experienced
researchers on FLOSS topics, across a wide range of
theoretical and methodological approaches. The goal of the
workshop is to help authors understand the phenomenon, to
build upon research, and to develop their own work into a
paper publishable into top journals.
Rather than have presentations, the workshop will be
organized around small group discussion. At each table,
there will be a senior researcher and other authors with
similar interests. Each author will get written and oral
feedback from other participants, and required to
reciprocate in kinds. We are borrowing the format from other
theory development workshops where it has been very
effective.
This will be followed by a second PDW with a series of
panels discussing the present and future of open source
software research. Participants are free to attend either or
both PDWs. However, admission to the research development
PDW is for authors of accepted papers only, and the deadline
for submission is 15 May 2006.
Further information on both PDWs -- along with submission
instructions -- can be found at
http://floss2006.info/.
Please feel free to contact either of us with any questions.
We hope to see you in Atlanta!
