    UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

    The Management Area faculty of the Gatton College of Business and
    Economics welcomes applications for a tenure-track faculty position in
    Strategic Management. Individuals with research interests in social
    networks, technology/innovation management, and/or corporate
    strategy/M&A are particularly encouraged to apply. We are interested in
    filling the positions at either the assistant or associate level to
    begin Fall of 2006. Top priority will be given to those able to provide
    evidence of a viable and nationally visible research program, as well as
    strong teaching ability. The successful candidate will be required to
    publish in leading academic journals and play an active role in the
    doctoral program. Salary is competitive, and additional support is
    provided for travel and summer research.

    The Gatton College of Business & Economics is AACSB-accredited with 75
    faculty, 2,400 undergraduate majors, and 390 graduate students. Graduate
    programs include an MBA program, M.S. in Accounting, M.S. in Economics,
    and a Ph.D. in Business Administration.

    The University of Kentucky, located in Lexington, Kentucky, is a
    land-grant institution founded in 1878. The Carnegie Foundation has
    designated UK a Research University of the First Class, and a Top 20
    business plan to elevate the university to elite status recently was
    unveiled. The University offers fields of study for undergraduate and
    graduate students through 11 different colleges. In addition,
    professional programs located in Lexington include Dentistry, Law,
    Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy.

    The city of Lexington, frequently cited as one of the most desirable
    places to live, has an MSA of approximately 430,000 people. It is
    considered the heart of the famous Bluegrass Region and is designated
    the Horse Capital of the World. Lexington is a regional medical and
    financial center and is located about 75 miles east of Louisville and 80
    miles south of Cincinnati.

    ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MANAGEMENT

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    We welcome applications from candidates with a doctorate in any Management discipline for this assistant-level position, but will give preference to scholars in human resource management or strategic management. We particularly encourage scholars with an interest in research in social networks to apply. Evidence of the potential for a viable and internationally visible research program, as well as a strong teaching ability, is required.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND APPOINTMENT:

    The successful candidate will be required to publish in leading academic journals. The position carries a three-course teaching load for the first two years that will likely consist of courses developed for the undergraduate, MBA and/or doctoral levels. Compensation is highly competitive. The appointment begins August 1, 2009.

     

    THE MANAGEMENT AREA:

    The Management Area is a unit within the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management</st1:placename></st1:place>, which also includes Marketing, Finance, and Decision Sciences. Our highly productive Management faculty actively publishes in top-tier journals including the <st1:placetype w:st="on">Academy</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management Journal</st1:placename>, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">Academy</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management Review</st1:placename></st1:place>, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Applied Psychology, Strategic Management Journal, Industrial Relations, Social Networks, Science, and the Journal of Management. The Management Area is also home to the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">LINKS</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">International</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Center</st1:placetype></st1:place> for Research on Social Networks in Business, which has a worldwide reputation for research in organizations and networks and hosts the Intra-Organizational Networks (ION) conference.  Core members of the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">LINKS</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Center</st1:placetype></st1:place> include Dan Brass (Director), Steve Borgatti, Ajay Mehra, and Giuseppe (Joe) Labianca.
