The "big picture" strategy questions...
- Where does competitive advantage come from,
and how is it sustained?
- Why do some existing firms and new ventures
consistently outperform their competitors?
- Why do some businesses succeed in the same
industry environments where others fail?
- And what, if anything, can managers and
entrepreneurs actually do about it?
-------------------------------------------------------
The aim of this annual conference series is to
improve our ability to answer these "big picture"
questions and other related questions by engaging
some of the world's top researchers on competitive
advantage in Atlanta for 3 days a year.
We expect to:
- Share cutting-edge research, ideas, and theories.
- Foster collaborative research efforts.
- Build a worldwide association and network of
researchers who are dedicated to advancing the
state of knowledge about competitive advantage.
-------------------------------------------------------
The conference organizers invite the submission
of unpublished working papers that advance the
state of knowledge about competitive advantage...
- Conference registration fee will be WAIVED for
all authors of papers selected for
presentation at the conference.
- Authors of papers selected for presentation
will receive conference proceedings, catered
meals, and deeply discounted hotel rates
(but will be expected to pay for their own

January 27, 2006.

NEW FEATURE FOR 2006...
TWO "RESEARCH-TO-PRACTICE" SPECIAL TOPIC FORUMS ON:
- RECOGNITION OF DISTINCTIVE ADVANTAGES
- IMPACT OF STRATEGIC ALLIANCES ON COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Research-To-Practice Special Topic Forums feature
presentations by both researchers & practitioners
who share common interests, in order to foster
exchanges of ideas, methods, & opportunities.
We especially encourage submission of original
research on these 2 topics:
1.) RECOGNITION OF DISTINCTIVE ADVANTAGES:
Where do successful new strategies come from?
How do companies discover or recognize their own
distinctive advantages? How does this cognitive
process work in managers & entrepreneurs?
What role is played by personality, experience,
experimentation, knowledge, learning, biases,
mental models, social networks?
2.) IMPACT OF STRATEGIC ALLIANCES
ON COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE:
When do alliances help, and when do they hurt?
What types of alliances & partners are more
advantageous? How can processes & structures
for managing alliances affect their performance?
Please indicate on the cover page of your paper if
you think it might be relevant for either of these
two Research-To-Practice Special Topic Forums.
