Faculty Opening in the Department of Organizational Leadership and Strategy at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Brigham</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Young</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place>
Position Description
The Department of Organizational Leadership and Strategy of the Marriott School of Management at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Brigham</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Young</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place> seeks to fill a continuing faculty status track position starting in Fall 2007. We welcome candidates with research and teaching interests in any area of organization studies, micro or macro. All approaches, perspectives, and methods are welcome. We seek to hire talented faculty at any level, ranging from junior to very senior appointments. The successful candidate will (1) be expected to conduct research that leads to publications in top-tier journals; (2) be responsible for teaching a two-two (or equivalent) course load to undergraduate and/or graduate business students; and (3) participate in college and university service activities commensurate with experience and rank.
The <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Marriott</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype></st1:place> at BYU was ranked eighth in the nation by Business Week in its inaugural ranking of undergraduate business programs this year. The Marriott School MBA program consistently ranks in the top 40 business schools among the major news and business publications. The School enrolls approximately 3000 students: 1900 undergraduate and 1100 graduate students. Nearly 80% of the students are bilingual; about 20% speak a third language. Most have lived abroad. The school enrolls approximately 10% international students.
The Department of Organizational Leadership and Strategy consists of 27 full time faculty members. Faculty regularly publish in top journals including AMJ, AMR, SMJ, Org Science, JAP, P-Psych, HBR, Sloan Mgmt Review, California Mgmt Review, and other discipline-specific journals.
<st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Brigham</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Young</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place> enrolls nearly 30,000 students drawn from all parts of the world. Academically well prepared, they have an average ACT of 27 (corresponds to an SAT of approximately 1220). Over one-half of new freshmen have graduated from the top 10% of their class.
<st1:city w:st="on">Provo</st1:city> is one of <st1:state w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Utah</st1:place></st1:state>'s largest cities with a metro population of almost 200,000. The area provides world class skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, river rafting, and golfing opportunities among beautiful alpine scenery. <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Provo</st1:place></st1:city> is consistently rated as one of the most livable, low crime, family friendly cities in the country. <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Salt Lake City</st1:place></st1:city>, host of the 2002 Winter Olympics, is only 40 minutes away.
Requirements
Candidates must (1) possess an earned doctorate (preferred) or be ABD by Fall 2007; (2) demonstrate the ability or potential to conduct high quality research in the organizational sciences; and (3) demonstrate an interest and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate business students. Applicants for associate or full professor should have records consistent with desired rank.
