Dear Larry,
Thank you for sharing the information. I am a professor at West Virginia State University and I am interested in two of the programs for the Summer: Introduction to Qualitative Research and Advanced Analysis for Qualitative Research. I have two questions though.
1. I thought I read somewhere that the $600 per course will include room and board but I am not sure.Would you please let me know.
2. Since I shall be driving from West Virginia, I shall need to arrive on the 14th (one day in advance) and also leave on the 21(one day late). Can arrangements be made to accommodate me?
I will appreciate it very much if you could reply to my questions since I need to make early plans with my department.
Sincerely,
Abainesh Mitiku

Subject: Summer Research Methods Short Courses at CARMA
Dear Colleagues (with apologies if you have already received this message):
I am pleased to send you information about upcoming 3-day short courses on research methods topics being hosted in May of 2006 by the Center for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA) at Virginia Commonwealth University. CARMA is an interdisciplinary center that is now in its ninth year of operation, and it has hosted over 80 events since its inception. Last summer, faculty and doctoral students from universities throughout the United States and abroad participated in one or more of our short course events. More information about CARMA and the events below can be found at our website: (http://www.pubinfo.vcu.edu/carma/).
Each of the short courses includes an equal balance of lecture and lab time with hands-on experience, with an emphasis on the application of the methodology. Our instructors are nationally recognized within the organizational studies and management areas as experts on their topics, and several are current/past editors and editorial board members of leading organizational journals.
I think you will find our registration fees for these events to be very reasonable (they include all meals), and low cost housing (hotel, dorm) is readily available within walking distance. . CARMA has enjoyed considerable success in providing a stimulating and comfortable environment for learning research methods and data analysis. A special discount is provided for faculty and students from universities participating in the CARMA Consortium Webcast Program (see details on this program below).
The deadline for Advance Registration is April 1, but the classes have limited spaces and you should register earlier to guarantee a spot. Let me know if you have questions, please share this announcement with your colleagues and students who may be interested.

CARMA Consortium Webcast Program:
The webcasts present one-hour lectures (with video and audio components) on advanced topics by leading methodologists from organizational studies, all of whom are editorial board members or past/current editors of leading journals from management and related areas. Our webcast program allows viewers to ask questions, is supported with relevant Powerpoint slides and references for background readings, and makes available recorded versions of each lecture for unlimited later viewing during the year. For 2005-2006, the CARMA Consortium Webcast Program includes a total of 10 live lectures from November 18, 2005, through April 28, 2006, plus an additional six that are available only in recorded form. The cost for access to these 16 lectures is only $750, and this fee allows an unlimited number of faculty and doctoral students from your university to participate. We currently have over 40 universities participating.
The main purpose of our Consortium Webcast Program is to allow faculty and students the opportunity to hear the latest methodological developments relevant to their research. For many faculty and students, learning about research methods is challenging, and watching and listening to an expert who can present information in an understandable form is a valuable learning aid. Our webcasts emphasize the substantive application of methodological developments and can supplement the education that occurs in traditional courses. Viewing them as a group can also be an important community building activity for your doctoral program.
