Is there Life After Tenure?  -- Come find out at the BPS Mid-Career Workshop (PDW #274)

So, you're going to get tenure? Or perhaps you already received it. How do you feel?  Do you want to sit down and take a long break? Write a grant? A book? Now that your beautiful dissertation is published and you are a big success, what about that next big project? Where will the data come from? Where will you find time with all those MBA's clamoring at your door?  Fear not! The BPS Mid-Career Workshop is the answer.

The Mid-Career Workshop is your opportunity to gather with a panel of distinguished BPS senior faculty – folks who were once where you are now – and learn their secrets. You will also be able to discuss the challenges and opportunities of this unique career stage with others in your cohort. This year's panel of distinguished senior BPS faculty include: Don Bergh (University of Denver), Bert Cannella (Arizona State University), Michael Lubatkin (University of Connecticut), Rita McGrath (Columbia University), Margie Peteraf (Dartmouth College), and Steve Tallman (University of Richmond).

The workshop will consist of an hour and a half of interactive round-table discussions on a variety of topics, such as keeping your research energized, advising doctoral students, administrative roles, mid-career moves, and editorial duties. That's the best part, but THEN the formal workshop will be followed by informal conversation over dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy (around the corner). Dinner is graciously sponsored by the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy.

The workshop will be held at the 2007 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Philadelphia on Saturday evening, August 4th from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Jim Combs (Florida State University) and Wally Ferrier (University of Kentucky) are serving as this year's workshop coordinators.

Participation is limited.  To qualify, you must (1) be a member of the Business Policy & Strategy Division, (2) have received your doctorate prior to July 2002; and (3) have served as a faculty member for at least five years.  In addition, a participant should have a record of commitment to teaching and research in the Strategy/Business Policy field. Preference will be given to those who have not previously participated.

Apply by email no later than Friday, June 1st, 2007 by submitting a current vitae and a statement indicating you qualify and are committed to attend.  Applications should be sent by e-mail to Wally Ferrier at: walter.ferrier@uky.edu.

Please put "Mid Career Workshop" in the subject heading of your e-mail. Participants will be notified of their selection by June 11th, 2007.
