This field reflects a burgeoning interest in who is involved in strategy, what they actually do, and the tools they use. The PDW will build on last year's successful introductory strategy-as-practice PDW, Putting the Manager back into Strategy, which had more than 50 participants. The PDW will have three parts: 1. Introductory Panel: this panel will consist of brief introductions on scoping strategy-as-practice (Richard Whittington); choice of research methods (Ann Langley); and key points in dealing with journals (Julia Balogun). There will be time for questions and discussion. 2. Roundtable Facilitated Discussions: participants will be invited to join a focused interactive roundtable to discuss particular papers that have already achieved successful publication in the strategy-as-practice field, broadly defined. Each paper will be chosen with regard to particular issues important to publishing this kind of research, including: identifying research questions, research design, making a contribution, data presentation and analysis, publication strategy, and dealing with the revision process. The roundtables will be facilitated by scholars with specific experience of publishing, reviewing and editing in this domain (see below). Each roundtable will be invited to share key findings from their individual discussions in plenary. 3. Journal Editors' Panel: the final part of the PDW will consist of a panel of editors from three journals which are important outlets for strategy-as-practice research: Martha Feldman (Organization Science), Steve Floyd (Journal of Management Studies), and Royston Greenwood (Strategic Organization). Each will be invited to introduce key issues in successfully publishing in strategy-as-practice research, followed by questions and discussion. Registration is required. The deadline is July 13, 2007. To register, please visit http://apps.aomonline.org/PDWReg |
