STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT AND HUMAN RESOURCES
FISHER COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
The Management and Human Resources Department at the Fisher College of
Business, The Ohio State University, is seeking applicants for a faculty
appointment in Strategic Management. This will be a full-time, tenure
track appointment, to begin in the fall quarter of 2008. The individual
receiving this appointment will have research, teaching, and service
responsibilities. Salary and teaching load will be competitive with
similar appointments at other major research institutions. Applicants
with a Ph.D. (or equivalent) either in hand, or anticipated, are
preferred. Rank for this appointment is open, although preference will
be given to experienced Assistant Professors. A publication record
commensurate with experience is an important hiring criterion.
The Fisher College of Business has a continuing commitment to build a
world class Strategic Management Group. Currently the group consists of
Professors Jay Anand, Jay Barney, Jay Dial, Sharon James, and Michael
Leiblein. In addition, colleagues in Entrepreneurship (Sharon
Alvarez), International Business (Mona Makhija and Oded Shenkar), and
several colleagues in OB/HR and Finance routinely contribute to the
conversation about strategy and strategic management.
In terms of research, the commitment to build a world class Strategic
Management Group implies that applicants will be able to apply the most
up-to-date theories and methods to address critical research questions
in their chosen area of work, with an eye towards publishing this work
in the most respected research journals in Strategy and related
disciplines. The Fisher College of Business and The Ohio State
University both have well-established research track records. The
Strategic Management group at the Fisher College seeks to build on, and
extend, this record. Continuing to develop a Ph.D. program in Strategic
Management that places students in the best Strategy programs in the
world is an important part of this research mission.
In terms of teaching, having a world class Strategic Management Group
implies that faculty will be skilled at translating their own research
and the research of their colleagues to the classroom setting. In this
manner, students at all levels-undergraduate, MBA, Executive MBA, and
Executive Training Programs-will be able to build the analytical and
management skills they will need to make valuable business decisions.
The Fisher College is committed to building these teaching skills in its
newly hired faculty.
Service expectations will be consistent with an individual's rank.
The Fisher College is not currently committed to any particular area of
research, theory, or methodological approach in the field of Strategic
Management. Indeed, we are open to applications from any scholar asking
research questions that are at the core of this field.
