The Management Area of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia is seeking applications for one or more full-time tenured or tenure track positions in strategic management, beginning in August 2009.
The positions are open to all ranks, including distinguished professor. Senior candidates must have an established record of both excellent research and outstanding teaching. For appointment at the Assistant Professor level, applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand or be extremely close to completion, possess practical business experience, and demonstrate clear potential for a strong record in research and teaching. Particular consideration will be given to scholars whose research has potential synergies with current McIntire faculty.
Currently, the McIntire School of Commerce (http://www.commerce.virginia.edu) awards a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, a Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Commerce (Finance and Marketing/Management) and a Master of Science in the Management of Information Technology. McIntire is recognized for excellence and innovation in undergraduate and graduate business education and scholarship. In the 2008 annual ranking of undergraduate business programs, Business Week magazine again ranked the McIntire School of Commerce second in the nation.
McIntire serves over 650 undergraduates and 250 graduate students. Undergraduate students enter the Commerce School in their third year at the University and concentrate in one or more of six fields: accounting, finance, information technology, international business, management, and/or marketing. The major professional services firms (e.g., advertising, accounting, consulting, and investment banks) and Fortune 500 corporations actively recruit McIntire graduates. In December 2007, McIntire moved into a 156,000 square foot new academic complex on the Lawn in the heart of UVA's historic Central Grounds, designed by Thomas Jefferson. Charlottesville is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is rated highly as a desirable location to live.
McIntire faculty members have received numerous regional and national awards for their research. They also serve as members of editorial review boards and as editors of leading journals in their fields. Management Area scholars include: Tom Bateman, Carl Zeithaml, Brad Brown, Rob Cross, Adelaide Wilcox King, Gary Ballinger, Amanda Cowen, Drew Hess, Karen Jansen, Jeremy Marcel, and Ira Harris. Recent publication outlets include Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Harvard Business Review, and Sloan Management Review. Examples of other leading scholars at McIntire include Bill Wilhelm and David C. Smith, Finance; David Mick and Rick Netemeyer, Marketing, and Michael Morris and Barbara Wixom, IT.
