Colleagues (with apologies for cross-listings): Below you will find information on our Winter Short Course titled "Intermediate Structural Equation Methods: Model Evaluation", which will be offered in mid-January, 2008. This Short Course is hosted by the Center for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA) at Virginia Commonwealth University, located in Richmond, Virginia, and it will be held January 10-12 (two and a half days). This course is aimed at faculty and students with an introductory understanding of structural equation methods, but who struggle with the challenging process of making judgments about the adequacy of models. It is targeted toward those who either fit models in their own research, regularly read SEM articles in their substantive areas and who want to better understand them, or serve as a journal reviewer and regularly judge articles using SEM.The course will consist of five sections, with each section having a lecture and lab component: Review of model specification and parameter estimation
Logic and computations for goodness-of-fit measures
Analysis of residuals and latent variables
Model comparison strategies
Analysis of participant data (participants are invited to bring their own data or data will be provided)
CARMA has arranged for reduced rates at hotels within walking distance of campus, and Richmond, Virginia has a mid-sized airport with direct flights from many US cities. For more information on CARMA and all of our programs, visit our website at http://www.pubinfo.vcu.edu/carma/default.asp.
The registration fee for the Winter Short Course is $350 for faculty and $250 for students coming from one of our 120 CARMA Consortium Webcast Program member schools (a list of these schools can be found on the CARMA website). The fees are $700 for faculty and $500 for students from non-Consortium Schools. After December 15, a $50 late fee is required.
If you have any questions, please contact us at carma@vcu.edu. Thanks.
