Dear Colleagues (with apologies for cross-listings):

Greetings from CARMA, the Center for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis at Virginia Commonwealth University, located in Richmond, Virginia.  We would like to announce that registration is open for our upcoming Winter Short Course, which will be held January 8-10 (two and a half days), 2009, here at VCU.  The topic of this short course is "Intermediate Structural Equation Methods: Model Evaluation", and I will be serving as the Instructor.  Please note the deadline for Advanced Registration is December 15.

This course is aimed at faculty and students with an introductory understanding of structural equation methods, but who struggle with the challenging process of making judgments about the adequacy of models.  It is targeted toward those who either fit models in their own research, regularly read SEM articles in their substantive areas and who want to better understand them, or serve as a journal reviewer and regularly judge articles using SEM.  This short course is NOT delivered using internet technology, and you must come to VCU to participate.

The course will consist of five sections, with each section having a lecture and lab component:

Review of model specification and parameter estimation

Logic and computations for goodness-of-fit measures

Analysis of residuals and latent variables

            Model comparison strategies

Analysis of participant data (participants are invited to bring their own data or data will be provided)

CARMA has arranged for a reduced rate at the DoubleTree Hotel, which is one block away from Snead Hall (our new Business School building) where the short course will be held.  Richmond, Virginia has a mid-sized airport with direct flights from many US cities. For more information on CARMA and all of our programs, visit our website at http://www.carma.vcu.edu/.

The registration fee for the Winter Short Course is $375 for faculty and $275 for students coming from one of our 135 CARMA Consortium Webcast Program member schools (a list of these schools can be found on the CARMA website at http://www.carma.vcu.edu/CurrentConsortiumMembers.asp#current).  The fees are $750 for faculty and $550 for students from non-Consortium Schools.  After December 15, a $50 late fee is required.

If you have any questions, please contact us at carma@vcu.edu.  Thanks.

Dr. Larry J. Williams, CARMA Director and University Professor of Management

    Winter Short Course Instructor
