    Johann,
We have an exercise on scenario planning that guides the students through the stages. You will find it in:

Gopinath, C. and J. Siciliano (2005), Strategize! Experiential exercises in strategic management, Southwestern/Cengage.
(The 3ed will be available in Jan 09).
    peace,

    gopi

    Hi Johann,
I have just completed writing a book on the topic. If you would like any chapters below to review, I would be pleased to send them. Other good books that I have found on the topic are Countney, 20/20 Foresight, Raynor, The Strategy Paradox, Loveridge, Foresight, Schoemaker, Profiting from Uncertainty, Kelly, Powerful Times, and Laudicina, World Out of Balance. With regard to practitioner material, the National Intelligence Council (a branch of the U.S. CIA) has just issued its new look at scenarios which can be downloaded from its website. I think it is well-done and worth reading. http://www.dni.gov/nic/PDF_2025/2025_Global_Trends_Final_Report.pdf

    Peter,

I think one of the classic books on scenario planning is Peter Schwartz's "The Art of the Long View". It could be a chapter from this would work in a classroom.

BTW, the HBS case on scenario planning at UPS works quite well in my implementation class. I don't use a specific reading on scenario planning. I assign a note on planning in general by Will Mitchell, which is available under Cases on his website, and then Jan Rivkin's note on hypothesis-driven planning.
