    Eastern Academy of Management - International Conference on Managing in a Global Economy XIV: Global Web of Knowledge Bangalore, India - June 26-30, 2011

    CONFERENCE THEME

     

    The 2011 EAM-I conference in Bangalore, India is designed to foster an international exchange of management research and practice among scholars and managers from around the world. The conference theme, "Global Web of Knowledge,"recognizes that issues surrounding globalization (E.g., outsourcing and off-shoring of business processes), and the growing interconnectedness of global knowledge networks profoundly shape the organizational challenges of managing sustainably in the 21st century. Following past conference practice, there will be a mix of academic sessions, site visits, cultural activities, and keynote addresses by local experts.



    SUBMISSION DOMAINS

    1. Technology Management and IS - Focuses on the use of technology management and IS to increase the competitiveness of the firm. This domain covers issues related to innovation generation, adoption and diffusion at the firm and industry level. It also explores how information technology and systems interacts with human systems to affect organizational functioning.

    2. Strategy/International Business - Focuses on issues associated with strategy formulation, implementation, and control in a global economy. Particular emphasis will be on strategic, cultural and management issues that arise when engaged in international business.

    3. Teaching -Focuses on issues of pedagogy and learning across cultures and classroom teaching methods that facilitate the acquisition of skills for managing in a global economy.
    Track Chairs:  Dave Fearon, CCSU, USA, (fearon@su.edu); Joan Weiner, Drexel U., USA, (joan.weiner@drexel.edu) and Vasanti Srinivasan, IIMB, India (vasanti@iimb.ernet.in).

    4. Organizational Theory and Behavior -Focuses on motivation, leadership, organizational learning, negotiation, and the management of people in organizations.
    Track Chairs: John Ogilvie, U. of Hartford, USA (ogilvie@hartford.edu) and Sourav Mukherji, IIMB, India (souravm@iimb.ernet.in).

    5. Governance, Ethics, Social Responsibility and Sustainability - Focuses on the ways that organizations operating in a global environment fulfill their social responsibilities, create ethical cultures, manage corporate governance, and address issues surrounding sustainability. This domain also includes NGOs and government-business interface.

    6. Entrepreneurship and Small Businesses -Focuses on issues related to the creation, support, and growth of small businesses and entrepreneurial organizations, incorporating innovative small business
    practices and social entrepreneurship. 
    Track Chairs:  Kim Polder, U. of St. Gallen, Switzerland (k.polder@gmail.com) and K. Kumar, IIMB, India (kumark@iimb.ernet.in).

    7. Comparative Management and Policy Practices - Focuses on specific national practices for dealing with globalization, immigration, human welfare, sustainability, and the privatization of public functions.
    Individual national practices will be combined in sessions to provide a comparative perspective.

    8. Research Methods - Focuses on methodologies that advance management research and practice. These include quantitative and qualitative methods, survey and archival methods, experimental and non-experimental methods, cross-cultural approaches, measurement, construct validation, and statistical modeling approaches.

    SUBMISSION GUIDELINES


    Submissions may take the form of either theoretical or empirical papers, symposia, interactive and panel discussions, cases, or experiential learning sessions. All submissions are to be written in English and follow Academy of Management style guidelines at www.aomonline.edu.  All papers and proposals should be submitted electronically via the conference website at http://eamiconference.org or www.eaom.org.
