    Dr. Danneels and colleagues -

    In addition to the sources you mentioned, the print version of "Who Owns Whom" Directory of corporate affiliations published by Lexis-Nexis has founding years for most firms, as well.

    I have had the same issue. I have found that the company profile section on Yahoo Finance (http://biz.yahoo.com/i/) often states the founding year. In most cases it is also stated in the history section of the firm's website (often in the "about us" page). In those cases where I could not find it, I just called the company.
