    Case Studies on Tourism Enterprises

     

    ·         That have become Known Brands

    ·         That are Innovative

    ·         That are into Niche Tourism catering to Specific Segments and

    ·         That are into Initiatives that Sustain Tourism in the Destination

     

    Prizes will be awarded for the best 3 Case Studies & best one Research Paper.

     

    We are organizing a two day conference at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Kochi</st1:city></st1:place>, Kerala in collaboration with The University of Southern Mississippi, USA & Kerala Tourism, Govt of Kerala, on 12th and 13th of May 2008. The theme is "Small & Medium Tourism Enterprises: The Local & the Unique."

     

    The objectives of the Seminar are:

    ·         Showcase interesting tourism enterprises in the small and medium sector

    ·         Understand How

    o        Such ventures get started

    o        They evolve

    o        They are able to sustain

    o        They become successful

    ·         Motivate potential entrepreneurs to

    o        Learn from these experiences,

    o        Start ventures that are different and unique

    ·         Motivate students towards 

    o        Creative tourism entrepreneurship

    ·         What can the State do to foster such entrepreneurship?

     

    v      First Day of the Seminar is for Presentation of Case Studies written by Students on such Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises.

    v      The Second Day of the Seminar is for interaction of academia, entrepreneurs and policy makers on the same theme.

     

     

    DCSMAT is looking for colleges / educational institutions that would continuously participate in tracking sustainability initiatives in tourism. The case studies written by these colleges would be compiled for publication as a case book.

     

    Ideally, the Cases would be written on real life tourism enterprises that are near the College itself. A group of 3 or 4 students under the guidance of a teacher could write the Case Study after meeting the entrepreneur / proprietor / managers. A Case Study of an <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Enterprise</st1:city></st1:place> would normally consist of the following:

     

    1.       History of the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Enterprise</st1:city></st1:place>

    a.       What led to starting the particular enterprise?

    b.       Problems faced while setting up

    c.       Problems tackled while setting up

    d.       Important events

    e.       Turning points (For example, the firm had to shift focus from one market segment to another one)

    2.       Services Offered, Type of Customers, Pricing, Distribution, Promotions, Infrastructure (Physical and Manpower)

    3.       Performance over Years (If not confidential)

    4.       Issues currently faced by the enterprise

    5.       Future plans

     

    An example of a Case Study on a Tourism Enterprise will be sent to you on request.

     

    Call for Case Studies

    Students under the Guidance of a Teacher may submit synopsis of potential Case Studies (Not more than 1000 words) to abstract@dcschool.net not later than <st1:date w:st="on" year="2008" day="30" month="4">30th April 2008</st1:date>. You may send the full text of the Case Study to fulltext@dcschool.net not later than <st1:date w:st="on" year="2008" day="7" month="5">7th May 2008</st1:date> with a Certificate from the Guide certifying that the Case Study is written by the students under his /her guidance based on a real life enterprise. Permission of the CEO of the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Enterprise</st1:city></st1:place> may be obtained for Presentation in the Conference. Short listed Case Studies will be included in the Conference and the best 3 Case Studies will be awarded Prizes.

    §         First prize:         Rs 5000/-

    §         Second prize:    Rs 2000/-

    §         Third prize:        Rs 1000/-

     

    Besides there is a special prize of Rs 7500/- for the Best Research Paper
