Bruce,
You might consider the Economist article, "Airlines Under Siege: Silver Linings, Darkening Clouds" (Economist, March 25th, 2004). It's dated, but you may find that it covers your needs. Also, although it's not a case, I have used part 3 ("What's happening to the news") of the PBS Frontline documentary "News War" to cover the general environment. It streams online from http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/newswar/.
I hope this helps,
Larry

Greetings,
I hope all is well. I need to readjust my assessment approach for the AACSB for my undergraduate strategy course. I am looking for as short of a case (or even vignette) as possible that would allow my students to identify specific external factors including social/demographic, legal regulatory, global/competitive, economic and technological. The case should also provide the material so my students would be able to make recommendations regarding appropriate strategic directions for each factor.
Ming-Jer Chen recommended Ici-Fili (HBS 9-703-516). Unfortunately, ICI-Fili is too long for my needs. I am looking for a shorter one. In the best of all worlds, the case would also be recent and interesting to the "average" undergraduate (and it would cure cancer...). Thank you in advance for your collegial help. I will be glad to circulate the winner for anyone who is interested...
Best,
Bruce
