INTRODUCTION
The development of computers and networks produces a big change in all human
relationship aspects. The possibility of people connection shapes new forms of
communities, education, intellectual life, institutions and of course, new
possibilities to develop the firm.
It is a capital issue understanding how worldwide connectivity can affect the
firm organization behaviour and performance. Connectivity not only changes
radically the relationship between consumers and producers but it influences in
a determinant way the manner firms interact each other and with other
organization.
This book intends to induce a reflection about the possibilities and trends of
networking in business environments and the process underlying them.
OBJECTIVES OF THE BOOK
The aim of this book is to give a comprehensive review of the potential
benefits
of virtual organizations in order to manage effectively its unavoidable future
development in firms. In order to structure the analysis we will develop an
adequate conceptualization of virtual organizations and a theoretical framework
in which to treat particular aspects and pragmatic application of networking.
This book tries to approach the problem from all possible points of view. A
marketing perspective where costumers necessities are identified, taking into
account customers as individuals and customers networks. Another perspective is
the organization one, where we identify all the changes that occur inside the
firm, identifying those processes which change or are modified. Besides the
tasks development, it is important to consider the organizational design, where
we study how information and communication technologies change the formal
levels
of the organization. From a human resource approach, we revise all the
functions
that a manager has to consider in order to assign the best employee to the
different tasks, taking into account that in virtual organizations appear new
elements in the virtual value chain.
AUDIENCE OF THE BOOK
This book is intended to be both comprehensive for firm managers and with a
depth analysis of the state of the art and empirical research for academics.
This book must focus predominantly on research, representing a contribution to
scholar progress. Following a prospective research, it must be useful for firm
managers in order to introduce new opportunities in the firm using virtual
