    CALL FOR CHAPTERS

Title of the Book: Knowledge Management and Virtual Organizations: Networking
    and Possibilities
Edited by Dr. Cesar Camisón, Dr. Daniel Palacios, Dr. Fernando Garrigós, Dr.
Carlos Devece (to be published by Idea Group)
Submission Deadline (proposal): January 10, 2006

    INTRODUCTION

The development of computers and networks produces a big change in all human
relationship aspects. The possibility of people connection shapes new forms of
communities, education, intellectual life, institutions and of course, new
    possibilities to develop the firm.

It is a capital issue understanding how worldwide connectivity can affect the
firm organization behaviour and performance. Connectivity not only changes
radically the relationship between consumers and producers but it influences in
a determinant way the manner firms interact each other and with other
    organization.

This book intends to induce a reflection about the possibilities and trends of
networking in business environments and the process underlying them.

    OBJECTIVES OF THE BOOK

The aim of this book is to give a comprehensive review of the potential
    benefits
of virtual organizations in order to manage effectively its unavoidable future
development in firms. In order to structure the analysis we will develop an
adequate conceptualization of virtual organizations and a theoretical framework
in which to treat particular aspects and pragmatic application of networking.

This book tries to approach the problem from all possible points of view. A
marketing perspective where costumer’s necessities are identified, taking into
account customers as individuals and customers networks. Another perspective is
the organization one, where we identify all the changes that occur inside the
firm, identifying those processes which change or are modified. Besides the
tasks development, it is important to consider the organizational design, where
we study how information and communication technologies change the formal
    levels
of the organization. From a human resource approach, we revise all the
    functions
that a manager has to consider in order to assign the best employee to the
different tasks, taking into account that in virtual organizations appear new
elements in the virtual value chain.

    AUDIENCE OF THE BOOK

This book is intended to be both comprehensive for firm managers and with a
depth analysis of the state of the art and empirical research for academics.
This book must focus predominantly on research, representing a contribution to
scholar progress. Following a prospective research, it must be useful for firm
managers in order to introduce new opportunities in the firm using virtual
communities or electronic commerce. All in all, the book will offer to the
managers a framework from where analysing the changes that are happening within
their firms and the new organizational patterns and behaviours, promoted by the
growing interconnectivity possibilities, underlying these changes.

Asokan Anandarajan, Ph.D., New Jersey Institute of Technology, asokan.anandarajan@njit.edu

    FOCUS OF THIS BOOK

E-Research Collaboration can be defined as the use of information communication technologies which enable the collaboration among individuals/group engaged in a research project.  These technologies can range from email to enterprise packages and online software services.

While we have seen the unprecedented growth of social networking tools such as MySpace, Facebook and Linkedin, these were primarily designed for social purposes. It is only in the last year that we have begun to see the emergence of research-based social networking tools. These tools, for example, MyNetResearch and 2Collab, can facilitate collaborative environments to orchestrate interaction within networks of researchers, partners, and customers to boost creativity and innovation. E-Research collaboration technologies can supply seamless connectivity to allow work anywhere and anytime.

    1.Introduction

In recent decades, ethics has become a crucial element in the business world . Most business ethicists and business strategists scholars agree that managerial leadership and hence the resulting competitiveness of firms are to a significant extent dialectically intertwined and correlated. This study will-as a preliminary-  synthesize the relevant literature,
evaluate a significant number of cases so as to uncover the existing links of causality between leadership , the ethical dimension of leadership and the resulting competitiveness of firms. In most cases, we anticipate that firms' competitiveness is the dependent variable, ethics and leadership being the independent variables.Ethicists and strategists alike have in fact always suggested that an ethics-based managerial leadership is conducive to a sustained and lasting source of competitive advantage. Our conclusions and recommendations will try to identify the sufficient and necessary sine qua non conditions  that will insure the real meaning of managerial leadership.

    2.Overall Objectives

The book will provide outstanding qualitative and quantitative academic research, industry and case studies in the areas of business ethics, managerial leadership and strategic management. The main focus of the book is to provide comprehensive insights into relevant organizational practices and processes .The book will host empirical as well as conceptual topics in order to provide a full coverage of the multi-dimensional sources of competitive strategy.
