I am offering a Seminar Course in Strategy for MBA consisting of contemporary (2008-2009) articles. The students already had a course in Strategy which was textbook and case based.

The objective in this course is to develop in the students the habit of updating on strategy literature and using the insights from such updating in the firms they join. I am planning for 10 articles spanning Positioning, RBV, Dynamic Capabilities, Boundaries of Firms, Strategy Implementation, etc.

Suggestions are welcome and I shall compile the suggestions and send them back to the Group.

    Sorry for cross-postings.

    Ancheri,

Peng's recent article in AOM Perspectives is a worthwhile overview of institutional theory and places it in context with firm and industry level theories.  Please see "Peng, M. W., Sunny Li, S., Pinkham, B., & Hao, C. 2009. The Institution-Based View as a Third Leg for a Strategy Tripod. Academy of Management Perspectives, 23(3): 63-81.

I look forward to the list you are generating.

See the last page my online syllabus at http://teaching.up.edu/BUS580/meckler580syl.htm

I rotate the readings each term, mixing contemporary and classic stuff, adding new stuff and replacing tired stuff. No textbook.

This is indeed an inspirational article and it invites more studies using multilevel theories and methods to advance our field. I wonder, however, if Williamson would agree that TCE is part of Institutional Theory?

See Williamson (2000), Journal of Economic Literature article titled "The new institutional economics" where he explains the relationship between TCE and institutional economics. Williamson's 1991 article in ASQ also discusses how TCE is related to NIE (new institutional economics).
