  • 1.  Looking for current Ph.D. Level Strategy Syllabi

    I am putting together a core strategy Ph.D.  and elective course for my department. I would be very grateful if you could share the Ph.D. Strategy syllabi you are using.  On the BPS website there is only Javier 2001 syllabus. I think it would be fantastic if we could put a few more syllabi on the website.

  • 6.  Looking for current Ph.D. Level Strategy Syllabi

    Hi Doug (and everyone),

    I have recently put together a short introductory seminar to strategy in our PhD program open to students from other areas. Here it is. I wrote a book specifically for this seminar (Theory of the firm for strategic management, 2009, Cambridge Univ. Press). In the course we first cover the main theories of the firm inspired in economics as they are used in strategy (mainly TCE, agency theory, and RBV) and, in the second part of the course, some of the main ideas in content strategy research (positioning, competitive dynamics, diversification, acquisitions, global strategy, etc). Everything is framed within the emerging analysis of value creation and appropriation in strategic management. I also use some readings from IO, finance, and marketing to stress the cross-functional nature of strategy, but always from an economic value perspective.
