BPS Mid-Career Workshop: Managing Your Evolving Career
Saturday, August 7, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
The BPS Division will again sponsor a workshop designed specifically for "mid-career" BPS faculty at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Montréal. The objective of this workshop is to facilitate networking and stimulate lively and useful discussion centered on the unique challenges and opportunities often experienced by BPS faculty as they move into and through their "associate professor years." This highly interactive and informative workshop will be organized around a series of discussions lead by BPS senior faculty about a variety of important mid-career topics, such as keeping your research energized, mentoring doctoral students, taking on administrative and service roles, mid-career moves and the job market, taking on editorial roles, and so on. Discussions will continue over dinner at a nearby restaurant, with the BPS Division generously picking up the tab.
This year's panel of distinguished scholars will include Jay Barney (Ohio State University), Mike Hitt (Texas A&M University), Joseph Mahoney (University of Illinois), Melissa Schilling (New York University), and Srilata Zaheer (University of Minnesota). Laszlo Tihanyi (Texas A&M University) and Parthiban David (American University) will be serving as workshop coordinators. The workshop will be held in room 513F at the Montréal Convention Center.
Due to the specific stage-of-career topics and the unique format of this workshop, participation is limited. To qualify for participation in the workshop each applicant: (1) must be a current member of the BPS Division; (2) must have received his or her doctorate degree prior to August 2005; and (3) must have served as a faculty member for at least five years. In addition, a participant should have a record of commitment to teaching and research in the strategy/business policy field. Priority for participation will go to applicants who have not previously participated in the Mid-Career Workshop.
If you are interested in participating, please submit: (1) your current vitae and (2) a brief statement that you meet the participation qualifications noted above and, if accepted, that you will commit to attend the workshop. Please e-mail your application to Laszlo Tihanyi at ltihanyi@tamu.edu no later than June 1, 2010. Please also include "BPS Mid-Career Workshop" in the subject heading of your application e-mail. Participants will be notified of their selection to attend the workshop no later than June 15.
