Not perfect or complete, but possible launching points: I have used both "Popularity or Income? Two Sites Fight It Out," NYT 10/21/08 about the different business models of Twitter and Yammer (with Twitter's introduction of Tweet-up, there is more room for exploration) and "Yahoo Chief Rearranges Managers Once Again" (NYT 2/27/09) as the beginning of similar explorations. It might be fun to pick a university, as higher education's business model is under extreme pressure; a related article is October 11, 2009 from The Chronicle of Higher Education, "Open Courses: Free, but Oh, So Costly:Online students want credit; colleges want a working business model." Actually, there's a ton of recent articles on the higher ed business model.
