  • 1.  An introductory level course on" Entrepreneurship"

    Posted 10-05-2011 17:38

    Hello,

I am currently putting together an introductory level course on the principles of entrepreneurship for spring semester. This course will cover feasibility studies; financial and location analysis; marketing; promotion; management; venture capitalism; and legal considerations.

My background is in BPS so I would appreciate any recommendations of undergraduate textbooks, syllabi, and/or activities that I could refer to while putting together this course. If there is interest, I am more than happy to compile the information the list serv members share with me and repost it as a resource. Thank you in advance for your help – I look forward to hearing your recommendations!

If interested in using a game, or collaborating in research using games, let me know. I do a lot with games, and have a special interest in entrepreneurship games.

I have developed an experiential exercise that is run inside of our introductory entrepreneurship class. The Online Venture Challenge involves the creation of a real mission-driven e-commerce website. Recent examples are found here http://management.faculty.royalroads.ca/entrepreneurial-studies/venture-challenge-websites-live-now. Some of these businesses continue after the course ends, such as, www.govoluntouring.com which was a student project in February, 2010.   If you would like more info. on this assignment, be in touch.

    Hi Munish,

I use an international entrepreneurship game that I developed and would be pleased to administer for you and any other interested academic. My students participate in the game for the entire semester, but your students can join and leave at any time that suits the way you conduct your classes. When your students join, they are "born" into the economy of the game, and when they leave, they "pass away," all natural events of life. The game is accessible through the Internet. It begins the semester as a single-industry, administered-government game and ends the semester as a five-industry, democratic-government game. Most who participate in the game for the entire semester will pass through three life cycles, fewer if they are more successful for they live longer in each life cycle.

You can get a flavor of the game by navigating your browser to my web site, given below. On the web site, click on the link to the Demo Version of GEO.

    Best regards,

    Hi Reza,

If it's just an introduction for undergraduates, then I have found using Kawasaki's "Art of the Start" as a good guide around which to add content to and bring in guest speakers. Financials are not covered in his book, so I use templates I have developed over a couple years (available in www.cie.unsw.edu.au under Library & Tools).

Help yourself to the course outline to STRE2010, available through: http://www.asb.unsw.edu.au/schools/Courseoutlines/

Aside, STRE2010 is also the first course in the Diploma in Innovation Management: http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/plans/2011/INOVA13451.html

    Best,

    Martin
