    Co-Editor Search

    Strategic Management Journal

The Strategic Management Journal seeks to publish the highest quality research with questions, evidence and conclusions that are relevant to strategic management and engaging to strategic management scholars.  We receive manuscripts with a diverse mix of topics, framings, and methods, and our acceptances reflect this diversity: We publish papers that develop and/or test theory, explore interesting phenomena, and evaluate the many methodologies used in our field.  We welcome a diverse range of researcher methods and are open to papers that rely on statistical inference, qualitative studies, conceptual models, computational models and various kinds of mathematical models.

The Strategic Management Society and Wiley-Blackwell are seeking nominations for two Co-Editor positions at the Strategic Management Journals.  One of these positions opened when Ed Zajac decided to complete his term after twenty years of outstanding service as an SMJ Co-Editor and Associate Editor; Ed Zajac will continue to serve as a Consulting Editor for another three years.  The other Co-Editor position is being added due to the large increase in editorial workload over the last few years.  The new Co-Editors will likely assume their duties in summer of 2013 and will be appointed for renewable three-year terms.

Each nominee should have the following qualifications:

    ·         Scholarly strength: Recognized worldwide as a strong scholar in the strategic management discipline

    ·         Experience: Has served or is serving as an associate editor or editor of one of the three Strategic Management Society journals (SMJ, SEJ and GSJ), or equivalent experience.

    ·         Open-minded and constructive: History of open-mindedness regarding topics and methodologies for strategic management research and constructiveness in helping people develop different types of research opportunities.

    ·         Strong work ethic: History of a strong work ethic in editorial activities, including both timeliness and ability to handle a steady stream of papers.

    ·         Collaborative leadership: Ability to work effectively as a leader in an extended team.  As an SMJ Co-Editor the relevant team will include the SMJ editors (CEs and AEs), SMJ Editorial Board and ad hoc reviewers, editors of other SMS journals, SMS staff and board members, Wiley-Blackwell staff, and an evolving set of other global stakeholders across the strategic management field.

    ·         Passion: Clear commitment to helping the journal and the discipline move forward, both operationally and strategically.

Nominations, including self-nominations, will be accepted until March 15, 2013. Nominations should include:

    ·         The nominee's name, full address, email and telephone number.

    ·         A letter of up to 800 words summarizing the nominee's qualifications relative to the criteria above.

    ·         A current curriculum vitae

Nominations will be reviewed by the Publication Committee of the SMS, which will recommend appointments to the SMS Board and Wiley-Blackwell. Members of the Publication Committee include Bob Hoskisson (Chair), Jay Barney, Javier Gimeno, Will Mitchell, Rich Bettis as well as members of the editorial leadership of the other SMS journals and from Wiley-Blackwell.

The Strategic Management Society and Wiley-Blackwell are also appointing Connie Helfat, currently an Associate Editor, as an Interim Co-Editor for six months to help manage the increased flow of manuscripts to SMS as Ed Zajac diminishes his role in processing new manuscript. Please note that a final decision on the Co-Editor positions will not be made until all candidates have been reviewed by the Publications Committee, including any interim nominations:
