Please consider submitting a proposal to the following PDW at the 2013
    Academy of Management Meeting:

EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION OF MULTILEVEL RESEARCH QUESTIONS IN STRATEGY
(Friday, August 9th from 8 to 11am at WDW Swan Resort in Swan 8)

CHAIRS: Rory Eckardt, Alia Crocker, and Thomas P. Moliterno (U. of
    Massachusetts)

PRESENTERS/FACILITATORS: Brian K. Boyd (City U. of Hong Kong), Teppo
Felin (U. of Oxford), Michael A. Hitt (Texas A&M U.), David J. Ketchen
(Auburn U.), Steve W.J. Kozlowski (Michigan State U.), Robert E.
Ployhart (U. of South Carolina), Robert J. Vandenberg (U. of Georgia),
    Zhen Zhang (Arizona State U.)

OVERVIEW: Numerous reviews and conceptual papers on strategy topics
call for or deploy multilevel perspectives. However, formal
multilevel empirical approaches often invoke terminology (e.g.,
emergence, compilation vs composition, bottom-up and top-down
effects), issues (e.g., cross-level fallacies, aggregation bias,
isomorphism), and statistical methods (e.g., hierarchical linear
modeling, multilevel structural equation modeling) that are new to
many strategy scholars. The purpose of this PDW is to provide an
overview of the challenging issues that multilevel research in
strategic management entails, and a forum to discuss early-stage
    multilevel research proposals.

FORMAT: The PDW will begin with several short presentations. These
will focus on 1) examining how current theoretical developments in the
strategy literature inherently raise issues that require multilevel
modeling; and 2) providing an overview of multilevel empirical tools,
issues and considerations. These presentations will be followed by
roundtable discussions focused on early-stage multilevel research
proposals submitted by participants (optional for participation)
and/or application of multilevel methodologies to specific domains of
strategy research. The discussions will be facilitated by scholars
with expertise in the methods inherent to these different types of
multilevel investigations. After the roundtable discussions, the PDW
will conclude with a group-wide discussion of the conversations and
    takeaway points from each table.

If you would like to discuss a multilevel strategy research proposal
with the panelists and facilitators, please submit a summary of your
proposed study by July 1, 2013 to multilevel.pdw.2013@gmail.com The
proposals should be approximately five pages in length and include: 1)
a brief overview of the motivation and background of the study; 2)
preliminary hypotheses; 3) description of the study's sample, data
collection, and measures; and 4) intended data analysis. Early-stage
proposals are welcome, and PDW participants are not expected to have
    fully fleshed out plans.

Pre-registration is required for this workshop. Participants are
highly encouraged to submit a research proposal. However, submission
of a proposal is not a requirement to participate.

We look forward to seeing you at the PDW in Orlando!
