    Greetings from CARMA!

My name is Haintso Rakouth and I am the Assistant Director for Membership for CARMA (Center for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis) at Wayne State University. CARMA is an interdisciplinary center devoted to helping faculty, graduate students and professionals learn of current developments in various areas of research methods and statistics for organizational, social and management sciences.

We would like to invite you to watch on Facebook our Live Meet the Methodologist interview session with Dr. Michael Hitt at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 27. Pease visit our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/CARMA-Research-Methods-Education/109746019101267 to join us during our Live Meet the Methodologist session. Instructions on how to access the Live Meet the Methodologist session are listed in the document that can be found here: http://carma.wayne.edu/Documents/UstreamLiveInstructions.doc

Dr. Michael Hitt is visiting CARMA to give a lecture that is part of the CARMA Consortium Webcast Program. The main purpose of this Program is to allow faculty and students the opportunity to hear the latest methodological developments relevant to their research. For many faculty and students, learning about research methods is challenging, and watching and listening to an expert who can present current information in an understandable form is a valuable learning aid. Our Webcasts emphasize the substantive application of methodological developments and can supplement the education that occurs in traditional courses. Membership in the Program occurs at the institutional level, and viewing the live Webcasts as a group can be an important community building activity for department faculty and/or graduate student. Our mid-year registrations for the CARMA Consortium Webcast Program are open.

    Abstract:
This presentation begins with discussion of quality research and the roles of specification and extension of theory. An example from research on the resource-based view of the firm is presented next. Special challenges to achieving rigor with secondary data are then discussed, including achieving statistical power and good measurement. Finally, a research example from the area of resources and internationalization of professional service firms is used to illustrate key points.
