Calls for the Dissertation and Doctoral Consortia are posted below.

Call for Participants: BPS Dissertation Consortium: Application
    Deadline - April 30
    Saturday, August 9, 2008, 8:30 am-5:00 pm

The BPS Dissertation Consortium will be offered as a pre-conference
activity for doctoral students in strategy at the 2008 Academy of
Management Meeting in Anaheim, California. This consortium, which
complements the traditional BPS Doctoral Consortium, is intended for
students who have defended their dissertation proposals and who will be
on the job market during the 2008-2009 academic year (i.e., for jobs
    beginning Fall 2009).

The Dissertation Consortium provides an opportunity for students to
present brief summaries of their dissertation research to a
distinguished group of faculty and twenty-five peers, and to receive
feedback from this group in an informal setting. The co-chairs of the
faculty panel for this year’s Consortium are Nicholas Argyres (Boston
University) and Michael Ryall (University of Melbourne). The faculty
panel will be chosen to reflect the interests of consortium students.

Priority for admission into the Dissertation Consortium will be given
to students who have not previously attended the regular BPS Doctoral
Consortium, but any doctoral student in BPS who expects to enter the job
market and graduate during the 2008-2009 academic year (and who is not
applying to this year’s Doctoral Consortium) may apply. Interested
doctoral candidates should apply via email to Nicholas Argyres at
    nargyres@bu.edu by April 30th, 2008.

    The application should include:
    1) a cover letter stating: a) that you are applying only to the BPS
Dissertation Consortium (e.g. you are not also applying to the BPS
Doctoral Consortium); b) a commitment to attend the BPS Dissertation
Consortium if accepted; c) why the Dissertation Consortium is the best
    fit for you.
    2) the most current version of either your dissertation proposal or
    a paper from your dissertation;
    3) a current CV;
    4) a nomination letter from your dissertation chair; the letter should
verify that the candidate is expected to enter the job market and
graduate during the 2008-2009 academic year.

    August 8-10, 2008

The Business Policy and Strategy Division will sponsor a doctoral
consortium during the pre-conference period of the 2008 Academy of
Management Meeting in Anaheim, California. The objectives of the
consortium are to support mid- to late-stage doctoral students in
business policy and strategy as they shape their dissertations, to give
them a chance to meet and interact with some of their future colleagues
and to enhance their scholarship, teaching and overall development. To
qualify for the consortium, a candidate must be in the proposal stage of
his or her dissertation with plans to defend the dissertation proposal
by September 30, 2008. The consortium will be held on Friday, August 8
from 6 pm to 9 pm, Saturday, August 9 from 8 am to 9 pm and on Sunday,
August 10, from 8 am to noon.

The 2008 consortium co-chairs are Kyle Mayer (University of Southern
California), Michael Leiblein (The Ohio State University) and Cathy
Maritan (Syracuse University). The faculty panel includes: Julian
Birkinshaw (London Business School), Don Hambrick (Pennsylvania State
University), Dawn Harris (Loyola University Chicago), Amy Hillman
(Arizona State University), Sarah Kaplan (University of Pennsylvania),
Marvin Lieberman (UCLA), Jeff Macher (Georgetown University), Jasjit
Singh (INSEAD), Todd Zenger (Washington University).

Interested doctoral candidates should apply in the writing by April 30,
    2008 by submitting:

Doctoral Consortium, b) your primary division of interest is Business
Policy and Strategy, c) you commit to accept an invitation to only one
doctoral consortium at the 2008 AOM meetings. Please also indicate in
this letter the number years you have participated in your PhD program,
    your dissertation proposal defense date (on or before Sept. 30, 2008);
and why the BPS Doctoral Consortium is the best fit for you.

    2) a summary/abstract of your dissertation proposal with 3-5
keywords identified at the end of the abstract (2 page maximum).

    3) a current CV.

    4) a nomination letter from your dissertation chair; the letter should
verify that the candidate is working on his/her dissertation proposal
and confirm the candidate’s dissertation proposal defense date.

Please email your application to Michael Leiblein at
(leiblein_1@fisher.osu.edu). The preferred format for items 1-3 above
is a single Word document, with the items presented in the order listed
above and using the candidate’s last name as the file name. Item 4 may
be submitted as a separate document, by the candidate or by the
dissertation chair. Any questions concerning the Consortium may be
addressed to Michael Leiblein (leiblein_1@fisher.osu.edu) or Cathy
Maritan (cmaritan@syr.edu). Participants will be notified of their
    selection in late May, 2008.
