For the position listed below, we will be interviewing a limited number of qualified candidates at the Academy of Management meetings in Montreal (August 7, 8, and 9).

    CHAIRED FACULTY POSITION

    ManagING FOR SUSTAINABILITY

The School of Management at Bucknell University seeks a suitable candidate to fill the Howard I. Scott Chair in Management, available to a full-time, tenure-track faculty member with a strong background in sustainability and at least three years of experience in teaching and research following the Ph.D. Applicants should be prepared to teach courses in sustainability as well as in related fields such as organizational behavior, strategy, business and society, or marketing. The successful candidate will provide evidence of developing and maintaining a meaningful program of scholarship that includes a focus on sustainability. The chair has a rotating five-year term with eligibility for renewal depending upon teaching and scholarly performance.

Bucknell University embraces the teacher-scholar ideal; therefore, applicants should be dedicated to excellence in teaching and scholarship and should desire to make an intellectual contribution in both arenas. In keeping with Bucknell's liberal arts tradition, the school supports both traditional scholarship and creative scholarship that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. The standard teaching load for this position is five course sections per academic year. We seek candidates who want to work in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment, develop innovative learning experiences, support our students through the mentoring/advising process, and serve the university community.

Established records of excellence in both scholarship and undergraduate teaching are required. Full-time organizational or managerial experience is highly desirable. Qualified applicants will have completed the Ph.D. degree or equivalent. The preferred rank for this position will be at the full or associate professor level, but senior assistant professors will also be considered. A successful candidate who has not yet attained tenure at another institution may be given credit toward tenure; one who has already attained tenure at another institution will either be given credit toward tenure or hired with tenure, depending upon his/her particular portfolio.

    MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS AT BUCKNELL

A complex world characterized by globalization, rapid technological change, and increasing environmental, social, economic, and financial pressures requires a novel approach to management education.  Learning only traditional business skills parsed into standard functional silos is no longer enough for tomorrow's leaders. Bucknell University's School of Management cultivates in its graduates enhanced maturity, enlightened perspective, creativity, and judgment.  In this effort we have formulated a novel curriculum that builds on our decades long tradition of teaching management as a liberal art.  This new curriculum is projected to commence with the incoming class of Fall 2011.  Taking advantage of Bucknell's comprehensive scope and intimate scale, the approximately 500 students in the School of Management will have the opportunity to choose from among four highly interdisciplinary programs that are integrated with the University's premier offerings in the arts and humanities, natural sciences and mathematics, social sciences, and engineering. The programs include Managing for Sustainability; Global Management; Markets, Design, and Innovation; and Accounting and Financial Management.  (For brief descriptions of the planned curriculum and each program, go to http://www.bucknell.edu/x43368.xml.)
