Dear BPS,
I write to you from Henley Business School in the UK with the sad news that Dr Simon Booth passed away in late 2013 whilst working on University business in Taiwan. This has obviously been a real shock to everyone here at Henley; Simon will be greatly missed. I'm currently handling some of Simon's workload and am contacting those who have recently worked with him so I'm sorry to have to break this news to you.
As Simon's email account will shortly be closed, if there is anything else that Henley Business School or the wider university can support you with on this work please do not hesitate to contact me in the first instance. I would request that you remove his address (s.a.booth@henley.ac.uk) from your distribution list.
Yours sincerely,
Mike

41st Annual Conference SOUTHWEST ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT
(In conjunction with the Federation of Business Disciplines)
Dallas, Texas March 11-15, 2014
Management for a Sustainable Future
The Southwest Academy of Management is pleased to invite you to attend the 41st annual conference in the "Big D" - Dallas, Texas. The theme of the conference is "Management for a Sustainable Future". We have a wonderful program http://www.swamfbd.org/AnnualConference.html with scholarly contributions in the form of papers, symposia, panels and workshops to advance our understanding of the role of management in building a sustainable future.
The greatest challenge of our times is to enable a sustainable future where the quality of life is enhanced, where harmony and equity exists among all stakeholders, where the relationship between business, society and the planet is mutually reinforcing, and where business value does not exist at the cost of societal or environmental well-being. What can management scholarship do to arrive at such a sustainable future? What theoretical insights can we leverage to design better operations, products, and services? Can we envision a different purpose that looks beyond financial profit to include social value and environmental performance? What theories and practices serve or hinder our striving toward this goal? How can we overcome current shortcomings in management thought and action? What (if any) are the possible limitations of such an approach? What fundamental tensions or conflicts may likely arise and why? How can management educators, entrepreneurs and practitioners contribute towards a sustainable future? Join us in Dallas to spend a stimulating and thought provoking time exploring these questions and more!
